Immediate implant placement

With immediate implantation, replacing a missing tooth faster and more affordable.

What is immediate implant placement and how does it differ from traditional implant placement?

In immediate implantation, the implant screw can be installed in the jawbone during the same visit where your own tooth is removed. In so-called traditional implantation, the implant screw is only installed about six months after the tooth is removed.

Immediate implantation has clear advantages over traditional implantation: the treatment time is shortened and one surgical procedure is sufficient instead of two, resulting in lower costs. Immediate implantation can also provide a better aesthetic result compared to traditional implantation.

According to peer-reviewed studies, implant-based implants are as durable and long-lasting as conventional implants.

Who can have immediate implantation done?

The dentist will make an individual assessment for each patient as to whether immediate implantation or delayed implantation is the most appropriate treatment. For example, chronic inflammation in the tooth to be removed usually does not prevent immediate implantation, but acute inflammation does.

Some lifestyle or chronic disease-related factors, such as smoking or diabetes, are a risk to the success of immediate implantation. Traditional delayed implantation or some other treatment option may be a better option in these cases.

Tooth extraction without an opening in the tooth row

Immediate implantation allows you to have a tooth extraction, implant screw installation and a temporary dental crown during the same visit. Thus, at no point is an opening left in the dental row, which can be an aesthetic disadvantage, especially for the front teeth.

In immediate implantation, the implant screw is given an ossification period of about 2 to 4 months, after which a permanent, custom-made dental crown is attached to the implant screw. The ossification time is the same as in traditional implantation.
